Tearing others down does not make me stronger. In fact, focusing on the weaknesses of those around me keeps my attention dangerously away from where it should be laser-focused, which is on my own shortcomings. As much as I dislike criticism aimed toward me, there is an unhealthy delight in pointing it toward others. In the end, casting stones only exposes my own hypocrisy and weaknesses while putting me in the wrong posture to receive God’s mercy. The LORD not only treats us with underserved kindness, He actually “delights” in us in spite of our failings. Gracious Father, though You are perfect in all Your ways You hold no grudges toward my imperfections. Instead, You work with me patiently and lovingly in spite of my resistances. Lord, make me more like You.
